Mr McElhinney explained that he was looking to gain a rearward position however he was unable to restrain his drive and had to improve forward. Mr McElhinney added that when gaining the position outside the leader at the 1400 metres, SPROCKETS continued to race keenly and he had difficulty in trying to gain cover from URBAN TIGER NZ when that runner was improving three wide. Mr McElhinney stated that approaching the 600 metres the gelding began to weaken and in his opinion was as a result of the gelding’s racing manners.
