RACE 3 – ALBURY WODONGA KITCHENS PACE – 2170 metres

Pre race blood samples were taken from ILLAWONG LORD and ONE TUFF NUT.

The all clear was held up to ascertain whether IMAPEST which was placed third by the judge and MIO CHRISTISIMO placed fourth by the judge had suffered interference over the concluding stages, whether the result of the race should stand.  After viewing the official footage of the event the all clear was given on the judge’s numbers 9, 10, 6 and 11.

ILLAWONG LORD (S Boyington) broke in the latter stages of the score up resulting in a false start and a warning was issued.

MISTER REBEL (B Micallef) galloped in the final 50m of the race. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that MIO CHRISTISIMO (D Jack) when being moved down the track in an attempt to obtain a clear run, had contacted the front legs of MISTER REBEL resulting in that horse being checked and galloping.  MIO CHRISTISIMO then moved further down the track and locked wheels with IMAPEST some 30 metres before the post.  Driver D Jack (MIO CHRISTISIMO) was charged under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference to which charge he pleaded guilty.  After taking into account his forthright evidence, good driving record and his guilty plea his licence to drive was suspended for 10 days.  That suspension to commence midnight tonight 31st December.

Just prior to being checked MISTER REBEL was unable to obtain a clear run.

RACE 5 – BAXTER CONCRETE AND QUARRIES NEW YEARS EVE CUP – 2170 metres

Pre race blood samples were taken from RED RIVER GLACIER and LUVUMUM.

INA GREAT PLACE NZ which has had over 200 starts was examined by the club veterinarian and passed fit to start.

MYGOLDENGRINNER (R Cashman) galloped on the first turn while racing to the inside of RED RIVER GLACIER (C Maggs).  After taking evidence from both drivers, and viewing the official footage Stewards were unable to lay blame on C Maggs (RED RIVER CLACIER).  MYGOLDENGRINNER was tightened and contacted several marker pegs prior to galloping it was established that RED RIVER GLACIER, when eased by its driver after an unsuccessful attempt to gain the lead, hung in slightly and this tightened the room of MYGOLDENGRINNER resulting in that horse contacting marker pegs.  The veterinarian inspected MYGOLDENGRINNER and reported it had an abrasion to its near fetlock and that he had administered bute.  As a result connections were informed MYGOLDENGRINNER would be stood down for a period of seven days.

As a result of this incident MAGICNRACING and JAY DEE ZED were both inconvenienced.  MAGICNRACING tired out of the event over the concluding stages.  The club veterinarian inspected MAGICNRACING and reported no condition.

B Jones (LUVUMUM) was reprimanded under Rule 168(1)(a) in that in the home straight on the first occasion he has moved from the three wide position to the peg line and in doing so momentarily tightened the racing room of JAY DEE ZED (P McRae).

Just prior to straightening for the run to the finish RUSTY CRACKERS who was well clear of the field once again hung in and galloped for a short distance before regaining its true gait and winning the race.  Connections were informed the gelding would be required to perform one requalifying trial.
