Race 4, CRACKA STAR

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS

MENANGLE 7TH APRIL 2018 – RACE 4 – PEGASUS PRINT GROUP PACE – 1609 metres

Today Stewards finalised their inquiry into the tactics adopted by Driver J Trainor (CRACKA STAR) at the above mentioned race.

On Tuesday 10th April 2018, Trainer B Fitzpatrick explained that pre-race there had been no specific plan for the gelding but having regards to the speed positioned to their inside, he didn’t believe his gelding would have the pace to lead but still were confident that CRACKA STAR would be able to obtain a handy position. Mr Fitzpatrick added that CRACKA STAR is not known for his toughness and if unable to lead from the wide barrier, he may be left to race without cover which would not be suited.

Driver J Trainor today confirmed the pre-race tactics and plan of Mr Fitzpatrick and added that he was required to make a quick decision as he didn’t want to be caught wide as CRACKA STAR isn’t a tough horse. Mr Trainor added that coming towards the starting point and as the start commenced, he saw no available option other than to take his drive behind a number of runners which began well. Stewards noted the comments of Mr Fitzpatrick and Mr Trainor and reminded Mr Trainor of his obligations under Rule 44(1) and asked to ensure the horse is driven in a consistent manner.
