Dream comes true for patient connections

BATHURST UPDATE | AMY REES

PACER Ominous Warning has had his fair share of battles but the seven-year-old gelding was victorious at Bathurst on Wednesday winning his heat to the Soldiers Saddle series and also cracking the $100,000 mark.

The half-brother to Gold Crown winner Beetson looked to be a promising horse as a juvenile winning six of his first 10 starts, however, he then went on to miss nearly three years of racing due to injury.

With the combined patience of owner/trainer Peter Trevor-Jones and owners Rod and Debbie Wenning, Ominous Warning has made a solid return to racing.

Having only had 30 lifetime starts, the gelding has gone on to win on 17 of those occasions and run a place six other times.

“It’s a dream to have cracked the $100, 000 mark with him,” Trevor-Jones said.

“This is the longest campaign he’s had. We could never keep him sound long enough to really reach race fitness but this time he’s been really good.”

Having now had 17 starts this season and only missing out on a cheque on one occasion, connections are hoping to maintain this consistent record.

“It will be a big step up from the heats and we haven’t drawn well but hopefully with some luck he can do enough to make the final,” Trevor-Jones said.

Ominous Warning recently contested a similar series, the Star Trek series, winning both his heat and semi and only just getting beaten in the final after a tough run.

“He has gone from a C0 to C3 very quickly so he’ll need to step up but we’re very happy with how he has been racing and how far he has come,” Trevor-Jones said.

The Soldiers Saddle semi-finals will be conducted at Bathurst on December 5 with the final taking place the following Saturday, December 15.
