The latest from Success Stud - celebrating 50 years

1 September 2017

This September marks 50 years of business for Success Stud.
An achievement we are very proud of ... difficult to be in business for 50 years let alone the horse breeding business!
Success Stud was established by John and Mary Gibson in western Queensland in the area of Dulacca in 1967 before moving to Oakey on the Darling Downs.
Whilst in Queensland the Gibson's built up to be the largest Standardbred stud in the state and made many pioneering actions within the industry.

Success Stud was the first Standardbred stud to use AI in Queensland.

At one stage, we were standing six stallions on the 600 acre property and running a large cattle feed lot business.
After selling the property in 1991, John and Mary relocated to Young in New South Wales buying a small holding and concentrating on servicing the many studs in the area with their horse reproduction skills.

During this time the John and Mary owned several stallions based in NSW on lease arrangements. Also during this time the idea of retirement was tried - without a great deal of success - not for this pair of horse lovers.
With the purchase of another parcel of land adjoining the existing property at Young and their daughter Jackie (making the horses her career) joining the team, the business was set to expand yet again.
Over the past 20 years or so, the family has stood stallions at Young and continued their unrivalled success in breeding preparing and selling yearlings across the eastern states of Australia.

Today, although not standing stallions on the property, it is one of the premier mare bases in the country.

A reputation that is set to continue for many years yet to come.
